Private, and you can check

Privacy claims are cheap. These are verifiable.

  • Open source. The whole app is on GitHub. Read it or build it yourself.
  • No server. There is no Crispr AI backend to send your chats to.
  • No analytics or ads SDKs. None are in the app.
  • No cloud backup. Chats are excluded from Android backup and device transfer.
  • Optional app lock. Fingerprint, face or PIN.

What the app can access

Only to download the model you pick, and for Google Play purchases.

Only if you tap the mic. Asked the first time you use it.

Only if you turn on app lock.
Contacts, location, photos, SMS
Never requested.

Voice input uses your phone's speech recogniser. Crispr AI asks for the on-device one; whether audio stays on the device depends on your phone and its speech service. See the privacy policy.

Questions

Is it really offline?

After you download a model, yes. Switch on flight mode and chat. The app only needs the internet to download a model or to buy or restore Crispr Pro.

Is it as smart as ChatGPT?

No. Models small enough to fit in a phone know less and make more mistakes than large cloud models. They are good at drafting, rewriting, explaining, translating and private brainstorming. Check important facts.

Will it work on my phone?

You need a 64-bit Android phone running Android 7 or newer. With 4 GB of memory you can run the smallest models; 8 GB gives the best experience.

Why is there a paid plan if it is open source?

Chat and every model are free. Crispr Pro unlocks the extra agents and is how the project is funded, instead of ads or selling data. The code for Pro features is public too.

How fast is it?

It depends on the model and your phone's chip. The app shows live tokens per second while it answers, so you can compare models on your own device.
